Stand Out as a Leader in Moniteau County

Leadership Moniteau County (LMC) is a program created to motivate our county’s citizens to become involved in community affairs including public service and participation in civic and not-for-profit organizations. The program enables participants to recognize where they can make a positive impact within our county and its communities. The California Lions Club is the sponsoring organization, but other groups and individuals give their time and talent to provide guidance to the program and its class members.

The program consists of six class sessions held over a 12 month period and includes sessions in California, Tipton and Jamestown with on-site visits to local businesses and farms. During the sessions, participants hear from speakers on leadership and volunteerism; the workings of local and state governments (this session takes place in Jefferson City); local education covering pre-kindergarten through high school; law enforcement, health and wellness, and community services; and industry and agriculture.

Each group or “Class” consists of 15 to 20 members with no age limit as the program encourages anyone interested in Moniteau County and their local community to participate. While the primary purpose of LMC is to prepare individuals to take a role in their community, it also provides class members with the opportunity to meet and interact with like-minded county residents.

The cost for LMC is $300.00 and requires a time commitment during the program’s 12-month duration. If employed, members must have the support and commitment of his/her business or organization.

Eligibility & Selection Process

Leadership Moniteau County program participants are selected from applications submitted to the selection committee based on merits through a highly competitive admissions process. Participants are expected to demonstrate talent and leadership qualities, and participate in community activities. All participants must also demonstrate a personal commitment to serving the community, show potential for a significant role in the community in the future, and a willingness to commit the time and energy necessary to complete the program.

Individuals from all aspects of the Moniteau County community are eligible to apply. The number of participants in each Leadership Moniteau County class is limited. Applications not selected for the current program are strongly encouraged to reapply.

All applications must be postmarked by July 15, 2024 to be considered for the 2024-2025 class.
